Greens Thank Cyclists

from St Albans Observer

CYCLISTS were thanked for their contribution to saving the environment with the gift of an organic apple from Green Party activists on Tuesday. Local party members handed out the healthy fruit, accompanied by leaflets extolling the virtues of bicycles, at St Albans City train station.

Spokesman Simon Grover said, "Cyclists help make the streets safer, reduce traffic congestion and avoid putting dangerous pollutants and greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Because of this the rest of us also benefit, so it is good to say 'thank you'.

"Normally the only reaction cyclists get is harassment from motorists. Cyclists get real rewards from going by bike, including better health, and they save the costs of fuel, wear and tear and parking that motorists pay".

The stunt was repeated by Green Party activists in other towns and cities in the Eastern Region.
